Product Overview

The GBL Vertical Concentrated Sulfuric Acid Chemical Pump is designed with dedicated cast iron or carbon steel construction and developed with a hydraulics profile optimized for concentrated sulfuric acid service. The series is intended for transfer duties involving high-concentration sulfuric acid, with emphasis on structural integrity, wear resistance, and sealing performance for continuous operation.

Model Designation

GBL Vertical Sulfuric Acid Chemical Pump TYPE

Key Features

  • Vertical in-line arrangement with coaxial suction and discharge nozzles of equal diameter for direct piping integration

  • Close-coupled motor drive; the impeller is mounted on the motor extended shaft for a compact shaft line and reduced footprint

  • Bearing system matched to balance radial and axial loads for stable operation with low vibration and noise

  • Externally mounted mechanical seal for convenient inspection and replacement, suitable for continuous-duty maintenance

Engineering Summary

The GBL is a vertical, single-stage centrifugal chemical pump in an in-line configuration. Based on the corrosion behavior of sulfuric acid across different concentration and temperature ranges, the casing material is specified as dedicated cast iron or dedicated carbon steel grades in accordance with material compatibility principles. The optimized hydraulic design maintains stable flow and head performance under highly corrosive operating conditions.

Typical Applications

The GBL Vertical Concentrated Sulfuric Acid Chemical Pump is primarily used for transferring high-concentration sulfuric acid and similar highly corrosive media. Typical industries include:

  • Chemical and pharmaceutical processing

  • Petroleum, metallurgy, and smelting industries

  • Power generation, electroplating, dyes, and agrochemicals

  • Pulp & paper, food processing, and textile industries

When correctly selected for material compatibility and operating conditions, the pump can deliver long-term stable performance.

System Configuration

The GBL system is a compact unit consisting of a vertical single-stage centrifugal pump with a close-coupled motor. The impeller is mounted directly on the motor extended shaft to reduce axial dimension. The bearing system is configured for load balancing, and the externally mounted mechanical seal supports sealing integrity and maintainability.

Components & Supply Scope

The GBL Vertical Concentrated Sulfuric Acid Chemical Pump mainly consists of:

  • Casing: dedicated cast iron or carbon steel construction

  • Impeller: corrosion-resistant design matched for sulfuric acid service

  • Drive system: close-coupled electric motor

  • Shaft sealing system: externally mounted mechanical seal

    • Rotary and stationary faces: hard alloy or ceramic materials

Technical Service

Operating Conditions

Recommended material selection and operating temperature ranges based on sulfuric acid concentration are as follows:

  • Sulfuric acid concentration: 80%–98%

    • Dedicated cast iron: recommended service temperature 25°C–50°C

    • Dedicated carbon steel: recommended service temperature 25°C–60°C

  • Note: In the 65%–80% concentration range, sulfuric acid is highly corrosive to steel materials and material selection must be made carefully; corrosion rate reaches a maximum at approximately 47% concentration.

Service Conditions

For continuous transfer duties in highly corrosive service. The externally mounted mechanical seal supports condition checks and replacement. The bearing system supports stable long-term operation through load balancing.

Protection Functions

The externally mounted mechanical seal is applied to reduce leakage risk and facilitate maintenance. The bearing system supports load balancing to maintain stable operation and reduce vibration and noise.

Selection Criteria

Selection should be based primarily on sulfuric acid concentration and medium temperature. Apply material compatibility principles to match dedicated cast iron or dedicated carbon steel grades, and verify suitability carefully in highly corrosive concentration ranges (e.g., 65%–80%). Where operating conditions permit, the vertical in-line, close-coupled configuration supports space-efficient installation and straightforward piping integration.

Operating Manual

Installation & Operation

  1. Before installation, carefully check whether any hard foreign objects are present in the pump flow passage to avoid damaging the impeller and casing during operation.

  2. Install regulating valves on the inlet and outlet pipelines of the GBL vertical concentrated sulfuric acid chemical pump to ensure the pump operates within the rated operating range.

  3. Open the inlet valve to allow the liquid to fill the entire pump chamber.

  4. Connect the power supply. When the pump reaches normal speed, gradually open the valve on the discharge pipeline and adjust it to the required operating condition.

  5. Check the temperature rise of the motor and bearings (≤70°C). If any abnormality is found, stop the pump immediately for inspection.

  6. It is strictly forbidden to operate the mechanical seal under dry-running conditions.

Preparation Before Start-Up

  1. Check the motor rotation direction. Viewed from the top of the motor toward the pump end, it should rotate clockwise. The test run shall be as short as possible to prevent dry-friction damage to the mechanical seal.

  2. Open the vent valve to fill the pump casing with liquid; close the vent valve once the pump is full.

  3. Check all parts to confirm normal condition.

  4. Rotate the pump shaft by hand to allow lubricating liquid to enter the mechanical seal faces.

Start-Up

  1. Fully open the inlet valve.

  2. Close the discharge valve.

  3. Start the motor and observe whether the pump operates correctly.

  4. Adjust the discharge valve opening according to the required operating condition. If a flow meter or pressure gauge is installed at the pump outlet, adjust the outlet valve opening to ensure the pump operates at the rated duty point specified in the parameter table. Measure the motor current and ensure it does not exceed the rated value; otherwise, the pump may overload and damage the motor. The correct valve opening depends on actual piping conditions.

  5. Check for shaft seal leakage. Under normal conditions, mechanical seal leakage should be less than 3 drops per minute.
