Model Code Explanation

GBL Vertical Sulfuric Acid Chemical Pump TYPE

Product Introduction

The GBL vertical concentrated sulfuric acid chemical pump is designed using a dedicated cast iron and carbon steel structure for concentrated sulfuric acid, based on an optimized hydraulic model. It is an ideal new-generation chemical pump. The shaft seal adopts an external high-quality mechanical seal, with rotating and stationary rings made of advanced hard alloy or ceramic, providing excellent wear resistance, zero leakage and long service life.

Product Features

1. The GBL vertical concentrated sulfuric acid chemical pump has a vertical in-line structure. The inlet and outlet diameters are identical and located on the same centerline, so it can be installed directly in the pipeline like a valve. With a compact and attractive appearance, it occupies a small footprint and reduces building costs. When fitted with a protective cover, it can also be installed outdoors.

2. The impeller is mounted directly on the extended motor shaft, resulting in a short axial dimension and compact structure. The pump and motor bearings are configured reasonably to effectively balance radial and axial loads generated during operation, ensuring smooth running with very low vibration and noise.

3. The pump shaft seal uses an external high-quality mechanical seal. The rotating and stationary rings are made of new hard alloy and ceramic materials, providing excellent wear resistance, no leakage and long service life.

Selection Guidelines

Special steels for the GBL vertical concentrated sulfuric acid chemical pump are widely used in 80–100% sulfuric acid at temperatures of 60–80 °C. In this concentration and temperature range, a protective iron sulfate film forms on the steel surface. Cast iron is not suitable for fuming sulfuric acid above 100%, probably because sulfur trioxide reacts with the silicon in the iron, causing embrittlement. Carbon steel is not suitable for 100–102% fuming sulfuric acid, but becomes applicable again above 102% acid, with a temperature limit of about 60 °C.

Dilute sulfuric acid is highly corrosive to steel. When the acid concentration is around 47%, the corrosion rate reaches its maximum. When the concentration exceeds 65%, the corrosion rate decreases significantly. However, in the 65–80% range it is still safer not to use steel; lead or other dilute-acid-resistant materials are preferred.

Recommended concentration and temperature ranges:

  • Sulfuric acid concentration: 80%–98%, dedicated cast iron, recommended operating temperature: 25 °C–50 °C.
  • Sulfuric acid concentration: 80%–98%, dedicated carbon steel, recommended operating temperature: 25 °C–60 °C.

Applications

The GBL vertical concentrated sulfuric acid chemical pump is widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical, petroleum, metallurgy, smelting, power generation, electroplating, dyes, pesticides, papermaking, food and textile industries for the transfer of concentrated sulfuric acid and similar corrosive media.

Preparation Work

Installation, Operation, Precautions, and Maintenance

1. Before installation, carefully check whether any hard objects are present in the pump flow passage to avoid damaging the impeller and pump body during operation.

2. Install regulating valves on the inlet and outlet pipelines of the GBL vertical concentrated sulfuric acid chemical pump to ensure the pump operates within the rated working conditions.

3. Open the inlet valve to allow the liquid to fill the entire pump chamber.

4. Connect the power supply. When the pump reaches normal speed, gradually open the valve on the discharge pipeline and adjust it to the required operating condition.

5. Check the temperature rise of the motor and bearings (≤70 °C). If any abnormality is found, stop immediately for inspection.

6. It is strictly forbidden to run the mechanical seal under dry-running conditions.

Preparation Before Start-Up

1. Test the motor rotation direction. Viewed from the top of the motor toward the pump, it should rotate clockwise. The test time must be short to prevent dry friction damage to the mechanical seal.

2. Open the exhaust valve to fill the pump body with liquid; close the exhaust valve once the pump is full.

3. Check all parts to ensure normal condition.

4. Turn the pump shaft manually to allow lubricating fluid to enter the mechanical seal faces.

Start-Up

1. Fully open the inlet valve.

2. Close the discharge valve.

3. Start the motor and observe whether the pump operates correctly.

4. Adjust the discharge valve opening according to the required operating condition. If a flow meter or pressure gauge is installed at the pump outlet, adjust the outlet valve opening to ensure the pump operates at the rated point listed in the parameter table. Measure the motor current and ensure it remains within the rated value; otherwise, the pump may overload and damage the motor. The correct valve opening depends on actual pipeline conditions.

5. Check the shaft seal for leakage. Under normal conditions, mechanical seal leakage should be less than 3 drops per minute.
