Operation & Maintenance Notes

Assembly & Disassembly

Before assembling the IH horizontal stainless steel single-stage end-suction chemical pump, carefully inspect all parts that may affect assembly and clean them thoroughly prior to assembly.

  1. Pre-tighten all connecting bolts, plugs, etc. on the corresponding components.

  2. Pre-position the O-rings, paper gaskets, felt, etc. in their designated locations.

  3. Assemble the seal ring, packing, packing ring, and packing gland into the pump cover in sequence.

  4. Install the rolling bearings onto the shaft, then place the shaft into the bearing bracket, install and tighten the bearing cover, and fasten the coupling bolts onto the shaft.

  5. Install the shaft sleeve onto the shaft, mount the pump cover onto the frame, then install the impeller and lock washer, and tighten the nut. After that, place the complete assembly into the pump casing and tighten all connecting bolts between the casing and the pump cover.

During assembly, pay special attention not to omit or misplace small parts, such as the key, oil cup, water seal ring, or the O-ring inside the shaft sleeve.

The disassembly sequence is generally the reverse of the assembly sequence.

Installation

Correct installation of the IH horizontal stainless steel single-stage end-suction chemical pump is critical to its operation and service life. Installation and alignment must be carried out carefully.

  1. Installation and Alignment:
    (1) Remove oil, grease and dirt from the base, and place the base on the foundation.
    (2) Check base levelness using a spirit level; shims may be used to adjust levelness.
    (3) Grout the base with concrete and set the anchor bolt holes.
    (4) After the concrete has cured, check whether the base or anchor bolts are loose; tighten if necessary, and recheck levelness.
    (5) Clean the mounting surfaces of the base, pump feet and motor feet, then install the pump and motor onto the base.
    (6) Maintain a proper coupling gap. Check whether the pump shaft and motor shaft centerlines are aligned; shims can be used for adjustment as required. The vertical/horizontal runout at the coupling outside diameter shall not exceed 0.1 mm, and the difference in end-face clearance around the full circumference shall not exceed 0.3 mm.

  2. Installation Notes:
    (1) Pump installation elevation, pipeline length, diameter and flow velocity shall match the hydraulic calculation to reduce unnecessary losses.
    (2) For long-distance conveyance, a larger pipe diameter should be used. The piping shall have independent supports and shall not impose any weight on the pump.
    (3) If a check valve is installed on the discharge line, it shall be installed outside (downstream of) the gate valve.

Start-up, Shutdown & Operation

  1. Start-up:

    (1) Before coupling the pump and motor, confirm that the motor rotates in the correct direction and that the pump rotates freely.
    (2) Close the discharge gate valve.
    (3) Use a vacuum pump to fill the pump casing with liquid or prime the pump.
    (4) Switch on the power supply. After the pump reaches normal speed, gradually open the discharge gate valve and adjust to the required operating condition. When the discharge valve is fully closed, the pump shall not run continuously for more than 3 minutes.

  2. Shutdown:
    (1) Gradually close the discharge gate valve and cut off the power supply.
    (2) If the ambient temperature is below 0°C, drain the liquid in the pump to prevent freeze damage.
    (3) For long-term shutdown, disassemble, clean, apply protective oil, and store the pump properly.

  3. Operation:
    (1) During start-up and operation, closely monitor instrument readings, bearing temperature, packing leakage, vibration and noise. Handle any abnormal conditions immediately.
    (2) Bearing temperature shall not exceed 80°C, and the temperature rise above ambient shall not exceed 40°C.
    (3) Under normal conditions, packing leakage shall be small and uniform.
    (4) Keep the bearing oil level within the normal range. If the oil level is too low, add lubricating oil in time.
    (5) If the clearance between the seal ring and the impeller is excessively worn, replace the seal ring.
